Jocelyn was born in El Salvador and was naturally exposed to Latin rhythm and dance. Her passion for dance was fuelled by the huge Christmas block parties. This base expanded her curiosity for dance and she decided to be a part of her high school cheerleading team. Ever since she was a child she has had an affinity for Egyptian culture, especially it’s ancient eras. This encouraged her to take up a new form of dance, and of course, she found Belly Flow Fitness in 2008. The music, rhythms, and movement of belly dance became a part of her life, and she praises its challenge and intricate nature.

“Belly Flow Fitness has brought joy and fearlessness into my spirit!”

Born and raised in Hamilton Ontario, Alethea’s passion for dance began at the tender age of 4; watching her parents dance in the living room on idle Saturday afternoons. When she joined in, they noticed how she kept to the rhythm of the music. Alethea took every opportunity she could to dance, taking some ballet classes, participating in school productions, fundraisers and church functions.

It was at one of these church functions – at 16 years old – that she was exposed to Tsifteteli; a Greek/Turkish version of bellydancing and she fell in love. However, finding instructors in the late 80’s proved to be challenging. It was 20 years later when Alethea would be able to take bellydance classes with a friend. And she’s been a part of the Belly Flow team ever since. Discovering her new found courage to perform and keeping fit at the same time helps to motivate Alethea to reach her full potential and personal goal: to be a counsellor by day and a bellydancer by night.
